This large artifact cluster has an area with evidence of Contact Period occupation (the larger artifact cluster designated 48PA2772 also has diagnostic projectile points ranging from Paleoindian to Late Prehistoric). Most of the metal objects were found in one small area, interpreted as a metalworking activity area. Distribution of some of the metal items in relation to the glass bead cluster (which includes white-heart beads, indicating likely post-1840).
This site provides a nice record of metal point manufacture with a full range of production debris from source metal, to chiseled-off fragments. The example shown below groups fragments that while not actual physical refits, seem to provide an overview of the production process and is a good way to help better recognize metal point production debitage.
