Red Bead Site
48PA3668 was recorded in a formally heavily grassland covered area after a large wildland fire. In addition to the glass beads, a metal adz/hatchet was documented at this Contact Period site. The artifact is called the “Red Bead Site” because on an especially windy recording day, a red bead was found, and since it was unusual was being shown to the crew. A high wind gust blew the bead out of hand, and although diligent searching (both then and year’s since) have yet to relocate the red bead (gives a new meaning to the term “blown glass bead”).
